Vintage Semaphore Flags

Vintage handmade semaphore flags in red and yellow. Handheld semaphore flags are used to signal and spell out words/codes within the maritime industry.

The semaphore system uses two short poles with square flags, which a signal person holds in different positions to signal letters of the alphabet and numbers. The signaller holds one pole in each hand, extending each arm in one of eight possible directions. The flags are coloured differently based on whether the signals are sent by sea or by land. These flags are coloured red and yellow – the 'O' or Oscar flag – used to signal 'man overboard'.

The flags will make for an interesting decor piece and have an insert at the top where a stick can be inserted.

The flags all have an approximate size of W 47 cm x H 47 cm.
