Who we are
Goods In is a general store selling household goods and vintage supplies, based in the Corn Exchange, Leeds. We source and supply vintage, industrial and salvaged goods for homes and businesses across the UK and abroad.
Although we exclusively deal with old things, we are a modern business - we believe in fair treatment for everybody without discrimination, strive to be eco-conscious in our approach and want to build a company to be proud of, not just for profit.
The role
This is a permanent, in-store position based at the Corn Exchange, Leeds. You’ll work a minimum of 20 hours per week with a view to increase, this will include weekend work. We’re currently open Thursday to Sunday 10.30-4.30 but we plan to adapt our days and hours as the business grows.Â

What you’ll be doing
Our success has come from building genuine relationships with customers and as Store Manager you’ll be at the heart of that. Your week will centre on engaging with people, using strong commercial instincts to drive sales and keeping the store looking its best.
In store
- Greeting and chatting to customers - engaging about the items they’re looking at, sharing stories and imparting knowledge
- Visual merchandising - using initiative within the framework of our look and feel, staying on brand and updating displays regularly
- Commercial analysis - understanding what’s selling and when, using this to make decisions about placement, stock selection and feeding back to the buyers
- Operational - processing sales, handling cash, packing and wrapping, managing holds, sending invoices and maintaining the stock file and KPI trackers
Beyond the shop floor
- Developing leads - offering our sourcing service, fostering relationships that lead to housecalls, identifying opportunities for business collaborations
- Building knowledge - researching the history and provenance of items and sharing this with customers
- Light cleaning and renovation of stock
- Occasional re-stocking of the store from our off-site storage, including packing and posting of items from time to time
- Stock control and re-ordering shop stationery as needed
- Weekly cleaning of the store hoovering and dusting
Salary & details
- £28,000-£30,000 pro-rata depending on experience
- Statutory benefits including paid holiday
- Minimum 20 contracted hours per week with a view to increase
- Permanent contract, based in Leeds
- Weekend work required
- Dedicated training provided
What you’ll bring
No specific educational background is required. We’re looking for someone who is:
- Motivated by sales and genuinely enjoys talking to people
- Able to demonstrate visual merchandising skills and a good eye for how things look
- Proactive and uses their initiative to generate future business
- Has an appreciation for vintage design, history and the stories behind objects
- Open to feedback and keen to develop - we’ll invest in you and hope you’ll invest in us
- Drivers license is preferred but not essential
Who you’ll work with
You’ll report directly to David, co-owner of Goods In. We’ll work closely together to achieve your career goals alongside the objectives of the business - both day-to-day and through scheduled development catch-ups.
